Tobago is part of the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago,  the southernmost islands of the Caribbean archipelago, and are geologically an extension of the South American continent.

Situated 30 km to the north-east of Trinidad, Tobago has a total area of 300sq km and measures 42 km by 10km.  A central chain of mountains, called the Main Ridge, extends nearly two-thirds of the length of the island from its north-eastern tip, the highest point being 567m.  Ridges and conical hills descend from the Main Ridge forming attractive valleys through which numerous streams run to the sea.

Tobago ’s main towns are the capital Scarborough, Roxborough and Charlotteville.
